Great Southern Land

Touring this Great Southern Land of ours, by pen if not by bus, cartoonists this year captured some perennial tunes about land, water and climate.

They drew attention to the prolonged lack of water in the Murray–Darling Basin, and the competing interests of farmers and the river ecosystem.

Other issues included the changing weather, the war on waste, animal extinction, bushfires, the poor health of the Great Barrier Reef, and approvals given by both the federal and Queensland governments to Adani’s Carmichael coal mine in the Galilee Basin.
