We're going on a treasure hunt

They searched here, and they searched there, those economic policy-makers they searched everywhere. In 2023 the federal government found a healthy budget surplus and planned to recoup additional tax from superannuation accounts over $3 million.

They also sought that elusive but much sought-after prize – popularity – first from Tasmanian voters by funding a new $715 million AFL stadium, and then from voters across the board with a commitment to previously promised Stage 3 tax cuts.

However, rather than getting pats on the back, the government came under criticism for keeping wealth from Australia’s less privileged. And their plan to ease housing pressures and boost social housing turned into a tense tousle with the Greens.
