Our Strong Rebukes

Alan Moir’s simple but effective cartoon of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese giving a direction to Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong encapsulates the contradictory nature of Australia’s various political positions on China. The Albanese government has worked hard to improve relations with China after they deteriorated in recent years. Simultaneously, Wong has sought to establish stronger ties with Pacific nations and deter Chinese interference in that region. She has also advocated on behalf of Australians detained in China.
