In April the Morrison government indicated that, despite urging from Australian and international human rights organisations that the age of criminal responsibility be raised from 10 to 14, it did not regard this as a priority. First Nations children are disproportionately represented in Australian prisons. Around 65 per cent of children aged 10 to 13 in Australian prisons have First Nations heritage.
