In late July Prime Minister Anthony Albanese attended the Garma Festival in East Arnhem Land. It was the first time the festival had been held since 2019, after it had twice been cancelled owing to COVID-19. While there, he announced his government’s intention to enshrine a ‘First Nations Voice to Parliament’ in the Australian Constitution. His announcement came five years after the Uluru Statement from the Heart first called for the establishment of such a Voice.
