The New Casual

‘When the second wave of COVID broke in Victoria, the rolling tragedy of contagion and death in the nursing homes was overwhelming. The conditions that were conducive to this tragedy were also beginning to be understood. The prevalence of casual staff, in a profit-driven sector chronically starved of adequate funding, needing to work in multiple facilities, provided an easy vector for a highly contagious disease. My analogy was brutal. The cartoon was too much for The Age, but the SMH published it.’
