The Paris climate accord, negotiated in December 2015, has been signed by 194 states and the European Union. During his presidential campaign, Donald Trump promised to withdraw the United States from the agreement. On 1 June, President Trump said the accord put his country ‘at a permanent disadvantage’ by undermining its economy. Jim Pavlidis saw it another way.
