Elections seem like a grand final game, the culmination of everything. Until the day after, and then, off we go again. Politicians seem to be on track for great things, then one slip sends them crashing to the backbench. The great powers play their power games in search of their manifest destinies, while their leaders jockey for their own. Political cartoonists relish these targets, just as we enjoy their skill and perception and celebrate the freedom we have to express all our various opinions. But destiny stalks cartoonists, too.
