For our protection
For years our national leaders have been pointing to the enemies of freedom as a threat to our Australian way of life. Every society has the right to preserve public peace and order, and therefore the right to legislate to protect its citizens. Parliament united to pass Acts on border protection and citizenship rights. Concerns surfaced about the over-extension of executive powers and invasive surveillance techniques, but people of all political persuasions seemed to view random acts of terror as a greater risk.
