In December 2013, following decisions by Ford and General Motors Holden to cease operations in Australia, Prime Minister Abbott and Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane announced a $100 million growth fund to assist Victoria and South Australia. When questioned about job prospects the Prime Minister said, “Some of them will find it difficult, but many of them will probably be liberated to pursue new opportunities and to get on with their lives.”
